THE eighth annual Sunridge Village family road race, organised by the Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletic Club and the shopping centre, promises to be the biggest ever.
The race has grown in leaps and bounds, and last year attracted a field of more than 2000 participants.
To encourage participation in this year’s event, the first 1000 entries at SpecSavers, PostNet and Myburg’s Sports at the centre will receive a T-shirt.
Organisers hope to break the 2500 barrier this year.
“It can be done and it will make this one of the biggest 10km events in the metro,” organising committee chairman Shane Brown said.
The race next Saturday, which starts at 7am, will once again be a fun-filled family affair with fantastic hampers, lucky draws and some major prizes. These include a R2500 shopping experience from Sunridge SuperSpar.
“Although an official EPA roadrunning event, the run/ walk caters for the whole family with distances of both 5km and 10km,” Sunridge Village centre manager Suzanne Fincham said.
“The school with the most bulk entries in the 5km race will win R1000, so we encourage all schools to participate.
Other fun category prizes include first family home, parent and pram, dad and dog and mom and tot. However, there is a restriction of one dog per entry. Entrants wanting to qualify for these special prizes must indicate this at registration.
Entries will be accepted at all major sport shops in Port Elizabeth as well as Despatch SuperSpar and Myburg’s Sports in Uitenhage.
Bulk and pre-entries close at 5pm on Wednesday, but it is a public holiday and some stores may close early. Late entries will also be accepted from 5am on the morning of the race.
